My top 10 books for the 1st half of the year.

Everyone is always asking me for suggestions on what they should read next. Here is a list of what I've read and what the kids have read. I'm also on goodreads if you want more suggestions!

My most favorite books so far this year.

The Book of Fires - In 1752, 17 year old Agnes finds her self pregnant and knowing the father is not a man she wants to be with decides to run away. She finds herself on the doorstep of Mr. J. Blacklock a pyrotechnic, who hires her as an assistant. An interesting story unfolds as she panics in trying to hide her secret which is showing more every day.

The Homecoming of Samuel Lake - Every summer, Samuel Lake drops his wife and children off at his in-laws for a family reunion while he attends his conference to see where he will be sent to preach next. Only this time he has no church and no where to go except his in-laws home. Samuel's daughter Swan discovers an 8 year old neighbor boy that needs help and hides him from the family until his father comes looking for him.

The Roots of the Olive Tree - spanning over multiple generations a story unfolds about what holds a family together and what can tear them apart. What is it that gives these women such long lives?

The Painted Bridge - Anna feels an immediate calling to the sea one day to help sailors after a terrible tragedy but when she returns home to her husband he is furious with her for taking off like that. He drops her off at an asylum in a hope that she will be cured of whatever it is that ails her. While there, Anna realizes that almost every story she's been told is fabricated, and she doesn't know who to trust in the end to help her escape the miserable place that she is trapped in.

Any Man of Mine - hockey, love, and a child conceived on a wild night in Vegas... What's not to love? For all my Grey loving friends, there are a few good sex scenes for you to think about.....

My favorite children's books so far this year.

Judy Moody and the Bad Luck Charm - My kids love Judy Moody and her brother Stink! We always get a good laugh out of the silly things that happen to them. Judy has a lucky penny and is hoping that it helps her win the spelling bee in class 3T so she can go to Washington DC! Will her luck run out before the bee?

The Flint Heart - Out of all the children's books that I've read throughout my life I am amazed at how different this book is. The first 2 chapters were slow going but after that I was hooked. Whoever possesses the Flint Heart will be horrible to everyone around them. It's up to Charles and his sister Unity to dispose of the awful thing, but is it gone for good? Do the fairies have the solution to their problems?

Mr. Potter's Pet - When Mr. Potter's parents pass and he's left all alone he decides to adopt a mynah bird, named Everest. Everest causes all kinds of trouble while Mr. Potter finds another friend to help him care for the home his parent's left him.

Muncle Trogg - Muncle is a the smallest giant that lives at the top of Mount Grumble. Being small has it's perks and Muncle is about to find his first human.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - I've started reading the series to the kids this year since we had planned to visit. We are about to start book 4 at the end of the summer.
